Recently returned from a trip to the Italian Dolomites for the Maratona event. From my first approach to Love Velo the communication was excellent and faultless. The guys were waiting for us at the airport arrivals gate and took us to meet other riders waiting for the transfer coach. The ride on the Friday was an excellent choice and a good chance to meet other riders and have a coffee and some Strudel! On the day of the event the guys from LV were there to collect any unwanted clothing after the early start and there to offer drink, food and motivation after the Sella Ronda part of the course. All in all a worthy 5 / 5 for the guys. I would definitely use LV for a future trip and for anyone thinking of doing the Maratona........ go for it! You wont regret it!

I used Love Velo for the first time this year for our Cycling Club trip to Bormio (Stelvio/Gavia/Mortirolo). I normally arrange things myself but with 14 people I decided to go with a company. Love Velo were very helpful and responsive to questions and changes. The hotel was excellent for cyclists and the bikes good quality (Trek Emonda). Dedicated transfers to/from the airport made the trip complete. Great work Love Velo!

Recently used Love Velo for a 7 day cycling trip to Italy Lake Garda. A seamless trip from start to finish. A great hotel recommended in an ideal spot half a mile from Garda centre and straight onto the recommended cycle routes which Love Velo supplied and were easily downloaded onto my Garmin. I would highly recommend Love Velo and will certainly use the again.

Where to Go on a Cycling Tour in Italy

Our cycling holidays in Italy let you discover the length of the country, from south to north. Explore bike tours in Puglia, the heel of Italy's boot, and sample the very best pasta in the country, stroll through whitewashed villages, and ride along the stunning Adriatic coast.

For a classic bike tour in Italy, Tuscany bike tours are unrivalled. Bike tours in Tuscany are the heart and soul of Italian cycling. Pedal along the famous strade bianche, sip cappuccino in a charming Val d'Orcia piazza, and enjoy a trip filled with the scent of olive oil and cypress trees. The trip is perfect for Spring and Fall cycling. Make sure to visit San Gimignano, the city of medieval skyscrapers.

The High Alps The Famous Climbs

Cycling vacations in Italy don't come much better than Alps bike tours and the Italian Alps in particular, offer iconic cycling. The legendary Passo Stelvio, with its 48 hairpins from Prato, will challenge you to ride harder and further.

Our Stelvio trips are self guided but most people come for for 5–7 days, more if you want to cover some of the other incredible passes in the region. This trip is only for road cyclists and climbers as the Stelvio is one of the toughest ascents in Europe. You need to have trained properly and be prepared for long, sustained climbs at altitude.

The pass usually opens from late May through late September, though this is always weather-dependent. For those chasing something unforgettable, our top tip is to ride the Stelvio as soon as it opens, when the year has been rich in snowfall. It means pedalling between towering snow walls on either side of the road, an epic and surreal sight.

Prices for the trip generally start at around $795, nearly doubling in the peak summer months. One insider tip: hiring a car can cut costs significantly, as airport transfers are often the priciest part of the package.

Head north to the Dolomites, where craggy peaks and sheer cliffs define this breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Site. From late May through September, once the high passes are open, you can tackle legendary routes where every bend reveals sweeping mountain views. This is a trip that is ideal for experienced road cyclists and climbers. There is no flat, just epic ascents and thrilling descents! Weather in the Dolomites is notoriously changeable, so our top tip for those long days on the bike, even in sunshine, a windbreaker is essential.

For those seeking unforgettable Dolomites bike tours, the Sella Ronda is a must-do, with the annual Sella Ronda Bike Day transforming the region into a traffic-free cyclist’s paradise. If you’re planning self guided bike tours Italy, keep in mind the Maratona dles Dolomites, the first Sunday of July. Either join this world-class event or avoid that week if you're not riding the event. With epic climbs, thrilling descents, and a true sense of adventure, the Dolomites deliver a cycling holiday like no other.

Consider too whether you hire a car from Venice airport, it can drastically reduce your price.

Lake Garda's Shorelines And Hillsides

Lake Garda cycling holidays are hugely popular for those riders looking to explore Italy. Lake Garda offers everything from scenic lakeside rides to vineyard-draped climbs on the surrounding slopes. Trips start from around $995, though it’s best to avoid the busy summer peak when both crowds and prices soar.

For those joining self-guided Lake Garda bike tours, the real highlights are often away from the shoreline. Ride into the mountains for 70–100 mile routes with epic climbs and breathtaking views. If you’d rather keep things relaxed, electric bike tours Italy open up the same landscapes, making vineyard routes and hilltop rides accessible to every type of cyclist.

Umbria, Liguria & More

Bike tours in Umbria will take you through magical countryside and to a quieter region than Tuscany. This is perfect trip if you want to get off the beaten track a little more and visit stunning sights and vineyards but without the crowds that visit Tuscany. Visit the stunning hilltop village of Orvieto and walk beneath ancient the ancient Roman ruins of the city gates. Head to the Tortellino shop, where homemade pasta is made every day before a visit to Gelateria La Musa where the gelato is made using traditional recipes with completely fresh, natural ingredients. Umbria is simply one of the best regions for self guided cycling holidays Italy has to offer.

To the north of Tuscany lies Liguria and the enchanting towns of Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre is one of Italy’s most breathtaking coastal regions and a perfect retreat for riders considering what bike tours Italy has to offer. It's famous for its five colorful fishing villages clinging to dramatic cliffs above the Ligurian Sea.

Book your next cycling vacation in Italy and experience unforgettable rides under endless blue skies and sunshine!
