Danube River Bike Tours
This scenic journey along the Austrian sections of the Danube is one of the most iconic Danube Bike Tours, offering a relaxed ride from Passau to Vienna through some of Austria’s most beautiful landscapes.
We have quite a few variations of Danube cycling tours and they are all ideal for leisure riders with mostly flat terrain and daily distances between 30 and 50 miles. The route down the Danube is best enjoyed in the early summer, before the main tourist season, when warm days, quiet paths, and blooming landscapes make for the most relaxed and rewarding cycling.
Our favorite section of the route takes in the Schlögener Schlinge, where the Danube bends dramatically between forested hills, creating one of Europe’s most iconic river curves. From there, enjoy effortless riverside riding along car-free paths, each turn unveiling postcard-perfect villages tucked beside the water.
Continue into the Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where vineyards, medieval towns, and wine culture make the journey as rich in history as it is in scenery. Highlights include gazing up at the golden domes of Melk Abbey and ending in Vienna with a ride on the Giant Ferris Wheel, the perfect finale for sweeping city views.
