One of our favorite Croatia cycling vacations is cycling the Istrian Peninsular. This heart-shaped peninsula is a treasure trove of cultural heritage, gastronomic delights, and natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for cyclists seeking both challenge and relaxation amidst picturesque landscapes. Istria is renowned for its culinary excellence, often referred to as the Tuscany of Croatia.
This trip is ideal for couples and friends because the hotels tend to be quite boutique in nature and because the highlights are adult themed activities such as visiting wineries and olive oil producers. Truffles are also a local specialty and our top tip is to travel in the fall where you can visit towns such as Buzet and Livade which hold truffle festivals in the fall. Seafood along the coast, paired with Istrian Malvazija or Teran wines, offers a delightful reward after a day of cycling in Croatia.
Bike tours in Croatia don't come much better than The Parenzana Route. Cycle the historic Parenzana railway-turned-bike-path, offering a peaceful ride through tunnels, viaducts, and lush countryside.
Cycling Italy to Croatia
Self guided cycling holidays Croatia meet Italy in this epic gravel bike holiday. Ride from Italy to Croatia, starting in Trieste and finishing in the magical town of Pula at the bottom of Croatia's Istrian peninsular.
Each day offers 25 to 50 miles of mixed terrain, with up to 25 miles of gravel on the longer days. You need to be in relatively good shape to take on this ride but you don't need to be the fittest cyclist in the world.
Our top tip is to extend your trip at the end and enjoy the stunning city of Pula, home to the iconic Roman amphitheatre and a history that goes back thousands of years.
