My first experience of solo travel and one that ran seamlessly! I went to France to stay in Bédoin to climb Mont Ventoux. I loved every single minute of my trip and will definitely be using Love Velo again. I could not recommend them highly enough!

We genuinely had the best holiday we've ever had. We booked Love Velo for a cycling trip around Provence, France. The communication running up to the trip was fantastic and hey planned the trip perfectly. The rides were fab and were well tailored to what our capabilities were, with planned cafe stops and amazing stop offs in beautiful towns that we would never have found ourselves. Each hotel was fantastic, getting better each day, and the trip was exactly as we hoped - stress free! Baggage transfers were a must and our bags were always waiting for us when we got to each hotel. Can't wait to book the next one! :D

Cycling Tours France
The beauty of French cycling tours is the breadth and difference in what you can enjoy. France is ideal for leisure cyclists who want to explore the stunning countryside. Take yourself on a self guided tour in Provence, join an e-bike tour in the Loire Valley or explore Burgundy and Bordeaux to ride through French vineyards.
The country is also the beating heart of road cycling. Each famous pass evokes memories of the Tour de France and you can ride in the tour tracks of legends. Fancy riding an icon? Then a bike tour of Mont Ventoux in the early summer will take you to almost 6,500 feet above sea level as you battle gradients, winds and your legs. For more Tour de France ride experience, head to the south for a Pyrenees cycling holiday, where the moody high mountains will test your resolve.

Where to Enjoy Cycling & Wine Tours in France
If there’s one thing France is famous for, it’s wine and gastronomy. From bike and wine tours through Burgundy to tasting the finest artisan cheeses in Provence, nothing stirs the soul quite like France.
If you’re looking for a cycling and wine tour in France, you’ve come to the right place. Explore the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, stopping at renowned vineyards to savor Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blends. Alternatively, head to Burgundy for a bold red or the Loire for a crisp Chenin Blanc enjoyed in the shadow of a medieval castle in the Valley of the Kings. If Provence excites you, visit Isle-sur-la-Sorgue by bike, known as the Venice of Provence, and wander through its Sunday market sampling local cheese and charcuterie.
From France’s legendary mountains like Mont Ventoux and Alpe d’Huez to cycling vacations in Provence, e-bike tours along the Loire, or exploring France’s wine regions by bike, we’ll show you the very best bike tours in France.
Provence Bike Tours
This self guided bike tour in Provence takes you from Avignon through the Luberon and Alpilles hills, with daily rides of 25 to 40 miles on quiet country roads. You'll pass lavender fields, vineyards, and villages like Gordes and Roussillon.
Our top tip is to let us curate a bespoke route for you to allow you to ride one of the several former railway lines. The Véloroute du Calavon, heads all the way to Apt and you'll pass quintessential Provence countryside with no traffic offering stunning views of the hilltop villages. We’ve ridden these converted railway lines ourselves and can share first-hand tips and favorite stretches.
A 'must not miss' part of your trip will be to head into Isle sur la Sorgue. Head to the town, famous for its canals, on Thursdays and Sundays. Here you'll find a sprawling canalside marketselling everything from local grown produce to antiques. E-bikes are also available and so this is one of our favorite electric bike tours France has to offer.
Loire Valley Bike Tours
A scenic ride along the Loire River follows the mostly flat, traffic-free paths of the La Loire à Vélo route, making it one of the most popular Loire bike tours. The beauty of our bike tours in the Loire are that they are totally bespoke. Pick and choose the number of days you want to cycle and the days you want to rest or discover the magnificent chateaux. For those looking for more exploration, we recommend extending the trip all the way down to Angers or even Nantes on the coast! If you prefer to stay in the heart of chateaux country, we will curate you a tour around Amboise, Tours and Blois, so you can visit world famous castles like Château de Chambord.
The Loire Valley is in central France and so it tends to be cooler than Provence. We therefore recommend visiting the Loire in May or June or September. These months offer perfect cycling weather and best of all, North American school holidays tend to be earlier than European school holidays. If you visit in the June when most schools in North America are on summer vacation, you'll find cheaper pricing than in July and far less crowds.
Where To Ride Classic French Climbs of the Tour de France
Nothing ignites the passion for climbing like cycling holidays in France, taking on the iconic climbs. Home to some of the most revered roads in Europe and climbs made famous by the Tour de France, we can get you riding some of the best cycling routes France can offer, and some of the most iconic ascents in the world.
Ventoux Cycling Tours The Icon, The Legend
Standing in first place in the pantheon of mythical French road cycling tours is Mont Ventoux. From iconic moments such as Chris Froome running in his cleats, Tom Simpson taking his last breath on the slopes, the buffeting winds and the gruelling ascent through the lunar landscape, this climb is cycling royalty.
We have helped over 1,000 cyclists summit Ventoux and so we know everything there is to know about this revered cycling climb. There are 3 routes up this famous French cycling route. The most famous is from Bedoin and this is the one you're most likely to recognise from Tour de France battles. We'd recommend this to anybody looking to tick the climb off their bucket list. Starting with a low gradient, it soon kicks up taking you into a forest of switchbacks. The clearing comes just past the famous chalet Reynard cafe and this is your last chance to stop for supplies, before the ascent to the top. It's only 4 miles to the weather station but do not be fooled by what appears to be a short distance. From here, you will ride out on to the exposed roads where the Mistral winds will test your resolve.
If you want something a little different, check out the route from Malaucene. It's not hugely different in profile to Bedoin but it's a lot quieter on the climb, as it's just less popular. In the height of sumemr when the climb is busy, this can often be a great way of summiting without the crowds. You can also ride the easiest of the routes which climbs Mont Ventoux from Sault.
Our top tip for a Ventoux cycling vacation is to give yourself enough time to acclimatize to the area. Ride the Gorge de la Nesque which offers incredible balcony roads and good climbing in the Luberon, before attempting Ventoux.
Make sure to check not just the weather forecast, but also the wind speeds! Bike tours in France don't come much tougher than a Mont Ventoux cycling holidays.
Alps Bike Tours Snow Capped Peaks
Synonymous with the Tour de France, Alpe d'Huez is a must ride on any cycling vacation in France. Experience the famous 21 bends, Dutch corner and the ascent to the ski village. Our top insider tip: base yourself in Bourg d’Oisans rather than on the mountain itself, it’s cheaper but most importantly spares you from having to climb back up every evening after your ride!
The area is climbing heaven, ideally suited to experienced cyclists and climbers. Make sure you experience the best cycling tours in the Alps and ride other snow capped cols made famous on grainy tv images from early editions of the Tour de France such as the Galibier, the Telegraphe and the Croix de Fer to name just a few. We also advise you to check out a climb that oddly gets overlooked. Ride the Col du Glandon which is on the doorstep of Bourg d’Oisans. It's not the highest or the hardest but it might be one of the most beautiful. The Lac de Verney just outside of Allemond is pretty but the crystal blue waters of the Lac de Gran Maison are truly stunning.
Pyrenees Bike Tours Moody High Mountains
These mountains separate France from Spain and are where so many epic cycling battles have taken place. Ride in the tyre tracks of legends and conquer the Col du Tourmalet, the Col d'Aubisque and the Col du Soulor on a Pyrenees bike tour.
Summer is the best season to ride, with warm weather, lively villages, and stunning views of the French-Spanish border peaks. Let us recommend our favorite cycling friendly hotel in Argeles-Gazost to base yourself. It's run by a cycling mad owner so you know you will get a warm welcome and everything will be geared towards you cycling the famous climbs. France bike tours don't come tougher than this.
