Just enjoyed my third cycling holiday by Love Velo. This trip put together by James was an excellent early season week on the Algarve. Coffee good, locals friendly and everything fitted into place and it was another cycling holiday greatly enjoyed. Thanks James and the wider team.

Awesome customer Service like it used to be. When planning my husband's 50th birthday and knowing very little about cycling I decided to try Love Velo and I can't recommend them, and the service I've received from James Danvers highly enough.

Thanks again for helping to make my trip an excellent experience. 10/10 for all aspects of the service. The Douro is perfect for exploration, wine tasting and gastronomy. Portugal family bike tours are usually located down on the Algarve where the family can ride through the Ria Formosa National Park, explore the lagoons and stop off at the endless golden beaches. The Porto to Lisbon bike tour is a favorite amongst those who want to experience Portugal's wild coast. Portugal Through Your Lens

Portuguese Scenic Bike Rides

Ride the Atlantic Coast from Porto to Lisbon

Begin your cycling adventure from Porto to Lisbon in the city of Porto, where the Douro River meets the sea for our 8 day adventure down the Atlantic Coast. We can always tailor your trip but 8 days gives you the perfect flavor of Portugal's west coast.

Cycling from Porto to Lisbon will take you along the Douro River, into the Mira region, renowned for incredible beaches, coastal sand dunes on the coast and pine forests in the interior. You'll also visit Nazaré, the world famous surfing town where 100 foot waves are not uncommon and where surfers and kite boarders flock.

The tour is perfect for adventure lovers and for riders who can comfortably ride 30+ miles per day. The cycling is not particularly difficult or technical though so if you have a relatively good level of fitness, it's the perfect tour for you to enjoy Portugal.

It's best to ride this route in the Spring or Fall when the weather is warm but the sea air is crisp. Our top tip is that you should consider the winds before setting off. The Nortada winds are typical on Portugal's Atlantic Coast and can be quite strong by the afternoon when the land is hot and the sea breezes bring in cool Atlantic air. If you begin your ride early in the morning, you will likely be finished and enjoying some beach time with a drink in your hand by the time the winds pick up!

Cycle Algarve’s Golden Beaches and Fishing Villages

Our Algarve cycling adventure is a sun-drenched coastal ride that promises golden beaches, empty roads, and an unforgettable taste of Portugal. This one’s tailor-made for intermediate riders looking to explore. The route follows the iconic Eurovelo 1 - Atlantic Coast Route all the way to the dramatic cliffs of Cape Saint Vincent in the very south west of the country.

You will average around 40 miles per day and while Spring and Fall offer great riding conditions, our top tip is to ride this in late October or beyond. The tourists are gone, the beaches are blissfully empty, and the roads? Yours for the taking.

You’ll pedal past the shimmering lagoons of Ria Formosa Natural Park and the tranquil wetlands of the Castro Marim Marshland Reserve, both havens for nature lovers and cyclists alike. Wind through inlets, glide by salt pans, and don’t miss Olhão’s famous fish market, it’s an explosion of colour, culture, and character.

Other unmissable highlights? The awe-inspiring Ponta da Piedade Cliffs with their towering golden formations and secret sea caves, and the windswept Cape St. Vincent, home to one of Europe’s most iconic lighthouses.

Conquer the Climbs of the Monchique Mountains

This trip is perfect for road cyclists and climbers alike. A 6-night stay usually costs around €1,200 per person, but here’s our insider tip: go as early in the Spring or as late in the fall as possible. Prices drop significantly, and you can often find fantastic deals with us, especially for March or October travel.

The absolute highlight of the trip is Foia, the highest peak in the Algarve, standing proudly at 902 metres in the heart of the Monchique range. This iconic climb is a must-do for anyone on a cycling holiday in Portugal. The gradient is steady and rewarding—challenging enough to test you, but never overwhelming. Along the way, you’ll weave through eucalyptus-scented forests, peaceful whitewashed villages, and into the crisp, refreshing mountain air. Did you know? The roads here are so well-suited to cycling that Cube chooses this region to test their bikes.

The best times to ride are Spring and Fall. The mountains bring cooler conditions than the coast, and in early spring or late Fall, you’ll often have the roads almost to yourself once the tourists have left. Our top tip for your journey: make a stop at Pastelaria Pizzaria Páscoa before tackling Foia. Order a coffee and a pastel de nata, it's a local favorite and the perfect fuel for the climb ahead.

Explore Vineyards on a Douro Valley Cycling Holiday

Cycling the Douro Valley is an unforgettable cycling vacation in Portugal, combining scenic rides with Portugal’s rich culture and history. Experience Portugal’s world-famous wine region by bike, riding past terraced hillsides, scenic riverbanks, and endless stretches of vineyards.

Along the way, explore the charm of towns like Pinhão and Lamego, where centuries-old architecture, cobbled lanes, and riverside cafés invite you to slow down and soak it all in. This journey is an absolute dream for wine lovers. The daily rides aren’t overly demanding, averaging 25–35 miles, but do require a good base level of fitness. Expect rolling hills, and keep in mind that even in spring and fall, the sun can be warm.

Prices start from $1,675, but here’s our insider tip: check for special offers in January, as this trip often comes in at a lower price.
