How fit do I need to be?

When is the best time to go cycling in Spain?

The Spring, between April and June and the fall, between September & October are the best time to ride in Girona. You can ride in the summer if you ride early enough as the midday sun is too hot.

Arrive & Depart At Any Time

A Typical Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Barcelona and we will be waiting to take you to the hotel. Check in and relax or explore the wonderful medieval town of Girona. You can pick up your bicycle the day you arrive, located a few hundred meters from a number of great hotels that we use.
Day 2
60km total distance
The Els Angels loop is one of the most famous rides in Girona and we recommend you try this today. It is a favourite of the pros that live and train here. It's a great welcome to Girona too as the route crosses the Les Gavarres mountains twice but the ride is a relatively relaxing 60km route. You can also follow the 2009 Tour de France route out to Cass de la Selva.

You know you are at the top when you see a large cross. If you are feeling strong at that point you can

Ride the extra 500m to the Santuari of Els Angels where you will be treated to stunning 360 degree views.
Day 3
100km total distance
The Sant Hilari route is one the best training rides in the area and is used extensively by the Cannondale pro team. The highlight of the ride is the stunning, snaking mountain climb, up to the Sant Hilari Sacalm, perched on top of the mountain at 900m. The climb is a challenging 25km but the ascent is quite gradual.
Day 4
110km total distance
Today you can ride the Olot loop, one of the longer rides in the area. You will ride over 1,500m of vertical ascent so you will need plenty in your legs. You will ride into the beautiful Garrotxa region, famous for its volcanoes, but don't panic, they're all now extinct.
Day 5
75km total distance
This ride has been made famous by David Millar and features one of the highest and the most challenging mountains in Girona, the Rocacorba climb.

This climb has gained notoriety in recent years for its relentless, brutal nature. It will certainly challenge you with a steep gradient and long distance. Keep an eye out for professionals who use this ride for training.

Today you will be transfered back to the airport for your return flight home.
